The TV serial, "The sword of Tipu Sultan' presents the story of the man, the warrior, the prince and the king. It's the saga of Tipu Sultan's life, devotion, valour and sacrifice. It narrates the tales of those that loved and betrayed him, the battles he won and lost; his greatness and the stupidity of his contemporaries; the wit and folly of his times; and the struggle of men when faced with the march of history. It dramatizes the amazing spirit of the man, who in the midst of trubulent times, Lost neither his dignity nor his love for his country. He persisted with his faith and chose to court death when he could have sacred himself. He ardently believed that the sacrifice of his life would serve as an example to the futre generations of his countrymen. Tipu appears as a humane and enlightened ruler, which is totally opposed to colonialism and a firm believer in the rights of man as envisaged in the American Declaration of Independence and the spirit of the French revolution. With this characteristic foresight, he also initiated efforts to promote Women's Libraries; abolish bonded labour; protext wildlife and environment; introduce measures for social justice; establish school and libraries; and encourage industry, agriculture and exports. Tipu's story eulogises the larger theme of national integration, national unity and communal harmony. The serial presents the cultural continuity of India, the age-old dream of India for freedom and fulfillment, unity and national integration of India... as these were indeed, the central concepts of Tipu's policies, hopes and aspirations.
